Keep the season’s important dates in view.

Source-linked dates and preparation tasks for the 2026–27 season. Filter the list, check who each item applies to and save a calendar reference.

Check season references for your selection

Choose the published area or exception, species, date, residency, licence and equipment stage. A standard WMZ entry also needs the exact zone. Compare the complete table row and its conditions.

Coverage and source dates

Federal migratory-bird dates: August 2026–July 2027; table checked 2026-11-05. Provincial licence and site restrictions still apply.

The official 2026–27 Hunters Guide was downloaded and its cover, season tables and notes on pages 14–23 were checked on 2026-11-05. Provincial dates cover April 2026–March 2027. Later notices and the conditions on your actual licence still apply.

The named entries reproduce published table scopes, not mapped boundaries. This comparison does not settle temporary closures, exact locations, draw awards, outfitter allocations, youth exemptions, Treaty or Aboriginal rights, or land access.

With or without the comparison tool: match your exact location to the official WMZ, identify the licence table for your residency, then read every species, sex, date, equipment and named-area note. A missing record never establishes a closed season or permission.

Practise season and document-date comparisons

Read each complete example, fill its conditions and choose Compare references. Change only the fields described by the other example.

Each example states its own provincial residency category; none determines your actual status or eligibility. Bird-document dates are fictional teaching assumptions, not proof of issuance. The existing checked 2026–27 table snapshot and linked current sources support the comparisons; actual documents, notes, site conditions and access still need checking.

A White-tailed Deer date cannot be moved to another WMZ

For the standard WMZ table, Saskatchewan resident, Regular White-tailed Deer, Rifle, November 1, 2026 matches a recorded window in WMZ 56. Read its harvest class and all attached conditions.

With the same fields in WMZ 1, the recorded Rifle window is November 20–30. November 1 is outside that window. These are separate location examples; a nearby zone is not substituted for your actual position.

Read the full conditions for both sides of each comparison. Dates are at the Saskatchewan hunting location.

Duck Mountain uses its named Black Bear entry

For Saskatchewan resident, Regular Black Bear, the combined stage, September 1, 2026 is outside the recorded Duck Mountain Provincial Park autumn window, which begins September 10.

The separate standard WMZ 37 table has an autumn window covering September 1. It cannot replace the park entry. The named selection leaves WMZ blank; it does not establish the park boundary, your exact zone or permission.

A missing Regular Mule Deer row is not a Draw award

For Saskatchewan resident, standard WMZ 15, Mule Deer, Regular licence, Rifle, November 5, 2026, there is no recorded row for the complete combination. This is a missing reference, not a finding that hunting is closed or permitted.

The Draw table contains a Rifle window covering November 5 for WMZ 15. Reading that table does not change a Regular licence into a Draw licence or supply a successful award. Match the actual licence and award conditions.

A Ducks season does not extend a five-day provincial licence

Fictional document exercise: provincial Non-resident category, standard WMZ 1, Ducks, Game Bird licence, 10 October 2026. The federal fall window includes that day, but example A’s provincial five-day document runs 5–9 October. Compare the actual date fields: the tool reports outside the document dates even though a federal row covers the day.

Example B changes only the fictional document dates to 10–14 October. The tool finds a federal reference match. This does not issue a licence, establish your residency or term allocation, or confirm other documents and access. Read the actual HAL document, current provincial arrangements and federal permit conditions.

Spring Snow Geese / Ross’s Geese dates do not renew an annual document

Fictional exercise for 1 April 2027 in standard WMZ 1. The ECCC 2026–27 summary’s spring entry covers Snow Geese and Ross’s Geese combined from 15 March to 15 June 2027. Example A explicitly assumes an annual provincial Non-resident Game Bird licence bought before 1 August 2026, with entered validity ending 31 March 2027. Its document is outside the chosen day.

Example B instead assumes an actually issued spring five-day document for 1–5 April 2027. Its dates and the federal reference match 1 April. The preset does not verify purchase history or issuance. The spring entry does not extend to Canada Geese or Ducks; check the actual licence, federal permit and all local conditions.

A’s March expiry is not renewed by the federal spring season. B demonstrates overlapping reference dates, not permission to hunt.

Choose the required fields to compare recorded references.

A matching date is a planning reference. It does not confirm eligibility, permitted equipment, an open site or land access.

Before deciding to go
  1. Check the current official table and updates, exact designated zone and any named-area exceptions.
  2. Match the document holder, species, sex, seals, award or outfitter, and actual licensed dates.
  3. Verify permitted equipment, daily hours, training and firearms requirements.
  4. Confirm site rules, current closures, land permission, access route and local bylaws.
  5. For migratory birds, check both federal permit / stamp and provincial documents, non-toxic shot and identification requirements.

These are dated references and preparation reminders. A listed date does not establish that your species, licence, method or location is eligible for hunting.

Date status compares the supplied dates with Regina time (UTC−06). It does not verify today’s licence availability, permission, open season or service arrangements.
